You have heard the word before, but exactly what is fibromyalgia??

The word Fibromyalgia is derived from the latin and greek language (Latin. fibro,fibrous tissues, Greek. myo-,muscle, Greek. algos-,pain, meaning muscle and connective tissue pain).

The word Fibro literally means a "condition of pain in the muscle fibers." These are all symptoms of fibromyalgia.

A fibromyalgia diagnosis is not life threatening. It may feel as if you are all alone, but know this, 7% of the worlds population suffers from this disease.

Now let's discuss some of the latest fibromyalgia research as it relates to the symptoms of fibromyalgia and some theories behind the cause of fibromyalgia.

So, what is fibromyalgia? What does a fibromyalgia diagnosis mean?

Technically it is not a disease.

As of right now in the year 2011, the latest fibromyalgia research has yet to identify the cause of fibromyalgia.

The symptoms of fibromyalgia suggest that this is much more of a syndrome rather than a disease. A syndrome is defined as a group of symptoms that characterize an illness or disorder.

muscle spasms

irritable bowel syndrome/I.B.S.

sleep disorders

memory loss/confusion/fibro fog

Other words associated with the symptoms of Fibromyalgia include fibromyalgia Trigger Points and Myofascial pain syndrome.

Myofascial pain syndrome is another form of chronic pain that affects the entire body, especially the jaw and neck.

Fibromyalgia trigger points or tender points are specific places on the body which are very sensitive when touched. There are 18 locations on the body. These, are some of the most painful symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia research has declared it as the second most common form of pain for women between the ages of 20-55 years of age.

80% to 95% of fibromyalgia sufferers are women. 6-21 million Americans now suffer from it, you are not alone. A fibromyalgia diagnosis can take time, only 1 in 5 is diagnosed. Diagnosis takes an average of 5 years. Highly Frustrating!

Fibromyalgia research has concluded that the onset of fibromyalgia symptoms often follow some type of serious injury or illness, some form of dramatic stress.

Stress in all forms is not bad. The stress you feel when you exercise is good, it will release your endorphins and make you feel good.

Now the bad stress is what you feel when you are anxious about something.

This anxiety will leave you without enough rest and feeling "stressed out".

Now this is important, If you suffer from fibromyalgia, being stressed out or anxious will harm your body in very painful ways.

Stress and fibromyalgia simply do not mix. The symptoms of fibromyalgia will always be amplified with more stress.

Stress will always leave you feeling fatigued, and you, more than anybody else, desperately need rest, free from worry.

The key is to work away from the theories and towards the facts.

The facts being, with a healthy approach you can make yourself healthier, stronger and more confident, all while treating your symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Exercise for fibromyalgia and a healthy fibromyalgia diet will lead you to that goal.

Fibromyalgia research is on going.

Since it's cause is still not known, fibromyalgia treatment should be taken seriously but also naturally.
