A fibromyalgia stretch

A simple stretch for fibromyalgia

Today we have a great question from one of our Fibro-Fit readers, Marisol.

Hi Eric:

I feel a lot of muscle tension around my chest and back due to my fibromyalgia, What kind of stretching exercise would you recommended to relieve the tension.

Hi Marisol,

Thanks for your question.

A simple stretch called "Huggers", can help you with most of your chest and back tension.

Simply stand tall with good posture.

Next, open your arms as wide as possible, as if you were going to give Santa Clause a great big bear hug. When you get to your widest hold that position for 2-3 deep breaths.

Now, slowly return your arms, keeping them parallel to the floor, as you wrap them around you, giving yourself a great big hug. Hold that position for 2-3 seconds and repeat this sequence for 8-12 repetitions (times).

You can also do simple shoulder shrugs either sitting or standing.

Simply let your arms hang down at your sides while you shrug your shoulders up towards your ears, then back to the rear and back up towards your face in a circular motion.

Take nice deep breaths as you shrug.

Check out some of my exercise videos on Youtube @ fibromyalgiafitness.

Hope these help Marisol.
