Can faith help Fibro?
July 13, 2015

The spirit connection

Over the past few month's, my family has had to deal with various health issues. From cancer to broken bones, it is evident that if we don't have health, we don't have anything. Sometimes we think that money, cars, houses and other tangible things are important.

It's not until we, or our loved ones suffer, that we soon realize nothing in the world is more important than our health, NOTHING!

I come from an extremely religious background that believes in God and Jesus Christ. Along with that comes a tremendous Faith. So my latest research has been aimed towards how faith can help those suffering from Fibromyalgia.

What The Research Says

Scientists have conducted research that has proven faith or spirituality has benefits in many areas such as cancer, fibromyalgia, heart disease, and other physical ailments as well as psychological, psychiatric and substance abuse problems.

Faith and spirituality improves the immune system, enhances healing, reduces complications during major illnesses and much more. This positive impact of faith or spirituality on health then contributes to our having a much fuller life. The list of existing research is too extensive to include here. See this Faith and Health Fact Sheet from the Christian Medical Association for an extensive explanation of the faith or spirituality and health connection.

Quotes from Leaders in the Research, Medical, and Faith Community:

“Frequent prayer, whether public or private, is associated with better health and emotional well-being and lower levels of psychological distress.” “The evidence for a religious factor in health is, to quote another expert in this field, ‘overwhelming.’” Jeff Levin, Ph.D., M.P.H., author of God, Faith and Health

“Our research and amazing new scientific technology are continually adding exciting new evidence that our Great Creator God has equipped us with marvelous mechanisms by which, through faith in him, our spiritual beliefs and behaviors can actually help heal us.” Harold G. Koenig, M.D., author of The Healing Connection

I will continue to urge you to find some simple exercises to combat your fibro. I will also suggest you dig deep and find that inner strength that only faith can bring.

"I think the wave of the future will not be to rely specifically on prayer or specifically on medicine or surgery. We need to get beyond this either/or way of looking at things and say they both work—they are compatible." Dr. Larry Dossey, M.D.
